Pastor’s Corner – Nov. 11th

Published November 4, 2012 by Our Lady of the Angels in Pastor's Corner

Praise the Lord!!! It is good to give thanks to the Lord Most
High!!
How often have we heard these words without really thinking
about the majesty and power they symbolize and the desire of
God to bless us. Last weekend with all the promises of a devastating
hit upon our area we prayed that God would put a “dome
of protection” around our parish. Furthermore, we prayed that
Jesus would place his cross of life in the deadliness of the storm
and reveal to us what true power was and just to finish it off
many prayed to Our Lady for her intercession to deliver us from
evil.
One of the great truths of our faith is that God will not impinge
or force Himself on us but, if we ask in humility and gratitude
our prayers will be answered. Our prayers “like incense” rose before
the Lord and were pleasing to Him.
Many will believe that we were just “lucky” – too bad! Luck had
nothing to do with it, in this Year of Faith we are reminded that
our Loving Father wants to bless and protect us. These
‘incidents’ test our faith and challenge us to “pray big.” What is
to be our response: praise and thanks from grateful hearts! Don’t
talk of love – show it: Make a visit to the Blessed Sacrament,
celebrate Daily Mass, pray a rosary, above all witness to those
around you without fear. Celebrate your obedience through the
gift of Moses in the First Reading — the Schema Prayer: Hear, O
Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone! Therefore, you shall
love the Lord, your God, with all your hearts, with all your soul,
and with all your strength. Take to heart these words which I
enjoin on you today.” Then confess with your lips and actions the
Responsorial Psalm: I love you, Lord, my strength.”
Today, more than ever before, the world needs strong Catholics
who celebrate their faith and who are unafraid and proud to profess
it. You are a walking billboard for Jesus. How did you
thank Jesus for His blessings throughout the saga of Hurricane
Sandy?
Remember to vote on Tuesday. Roadside sign: Jn 3:16, next to it
another sign: This is Jesus and I approve this message
