The story is told of a mighty lion who strutted through the plains and forests roaring: “Who’s the King of the Jungle?”. All the animals from the smallest mouse to the tallest giraffe bowed down and said: “You are O mighty lion!!” O day the lion came across an elephant and he again roared his challenge: “Who is the King of the Jungle?”, the elephant immediately wrapped his long trunk around the lion, twirled him around a few times and threw him against a tree. Dazed and confused the lion staggered back to the elephant, looked up and said: “Just because you don’t know the answer is no reason to get sore.” How often in our daily lives do we feel that we are in control of our own jungle until some sickness, disease, tragedy or life’s little bumps see to well up and throw us against a tree? During these hazy, lazy days of summer (you do remember them don’t you?) it is a good time to spend some time reflecting on the illusion of control and get a good assessment of the truth of our “jungle”. God wants us to be very aware that only He has the ability to see us safely through the many challenges and difficulties of life. He wants us to know that He is always with us and will protect us if we let Him. Our parish feast day is fast approaching and we are going to rededicate the parish to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Sacred Heart. It will be a time of great blessing and renewal. Make a date with the Lord and let him love you and the whole parish. As we get ready for the Spiritual part of the Parish Festival we also are looking for volunteers for the Fellowship part of the festival: the Peach Festival. If you can help please call the parish center. Please keep Fr. Cosme and his family in your prayers. He has returned to the Philippines to be with his mother in her final days. He also told me that his father is failing rapidly. He is scheduled to return on August 8th.
