PASTOR’S CORNER August 7, 2012

Published August 12, 2012 by Our Lady of the Angels in Pastor's Corner

STOP GRUMBLING!!!! All three of the readings this week speak to us about the negative effects of grumbling. In effect Jesus says that grumbling pushes Him out of our lives and makes Him, the source of life, peace, love and joy, irrelevant.  Grumbling makes us self-centered, aggressive, contentious, gossipy and just plain nasty because it encourages self-entitlement which makes us proud, hard-hearted and deaf to the call of God to serve one another.

This week we celebrate our parish feast with a Triduum of prayer and social events that encourage us to, as the responsorial psalm says: “Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.”

To help our prayer life develop we will celebrate the Eucharist each morning at 8 am and also on Monday (7pm), Tuesday (5pm Vigil of the Assumption) and Wednesday evenings (7pm with procession and blessing of the parish). We will have adoration each evening until 9 pm followed by Benediction. We have also set up Rosary Stations around the property so that everyone can come all day or night and pilgrimage while praying the rosary for the parish and all of your special intentions.

We certainly cannot forget the Peach Festival. This year promises to be the best ever. Come early and stay late. We anticipate your presence and our thanks to all who are working so hard to make this a blessed day. Bishop McHugh Regional Grammar School will also have a display at the Festival and you will be able to experience some of the remarkable technology and educational opportunities that the school has to offer.

Remember also that the official parish uniform (hat and shirt) are now available in the parish center at the Peach Festival and the upcoming parish picnic. Hats are $12 and shirts are $10, both for $20. Let everyone see that you are proud to be a member of Our Lady of Angels parish.

I leave you with the words of St. Paul: So be imitators of God, as beloved children, and live in love, as Christ loved us and handed himself over for us as a sacrificial offering to God for a fragrant aroma.
