Merry Christmas!! This will certainly be the last time you hear this most blessed greeting for the next eleven months. Before we turn around twice it will be August and the commercialism of Christmas will begin anew. Now is it time to savor past blessings and accept the invitation to reflect on and bless others with the wonderful Gift that our loving God has so generously provided for our health of mind, body and spirit. Although today is the last day of the Christmas Season I feel confident in saying that most Christmas decorations are packed away for the season. […]

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! On behalf of Fr. and me we wish you all a very blessed and joyful year. Scripture reminds us that the favors of the Lord are not exhausted, they are renewed each morning. As we begin this New Year our God promises us that He will journey with us if we but choose to BELIEVE. We must choose to believe not in our own ability to survive, not in our government’s bailouts and programs for betterment, not in our science and technology to make life easier but in the very real presence of the God who created […]

Ready or not, here we go!! Thought Christmas colors were red and green? Try blueish purple. That’s the official church color for Advent, the four-week spiritual preparation time leading up to the Feast of the Nativity. It gives a little leeway with purple or blue. Many of us remember receiving Advent Calendars with little “treats” behind each door as we celebrated the Season of Advent. The calendars first emerged in the mid-1800s as another tool to focus on the reason for the season. Before paper became readily available, many families used small candles or even blocks to mark each day […]

RESPECT LIFE SUNDAY: A MESSAGE FROM CARDINAL SEAN O’MALLEY My dear friends in Christ: Pope Francis has captivated the world with his humility, warmth and compassion for each person. Vivid accounts of his tenderness for “the least of these” our attention. Why? At the heart of each of these interactions is a truth which resonates in our hearts, revealing to us something essential to understanding ourselves and our purpose. We are loved. In his 2013 Day for Life Greeting, Pope Francis conveyed that “even the weakest and most vulnerable, the sick, the old, the unborn and the poor, are masterpieces […]

Our “Prayer Marathon” is now over. We celebrated 15 days of offering the parish opportunities to stand in the grace of God in prayer and fellowship: to allow God to “Heap Coals of Blessings on our Heads”. It was the most satisfying and invigorating experience I’ve personally had since coming to Our Lady of Angels. I know that those who came will continue to experience the “salvation” our God promises us in this life. My thanks to all those who worked so diligently and lovingly to make this happen. What did we learn? To enjoy the blessings we’ve never thought […]

S O S One of our ongoing Novena petitions is the ability to recognize and respond to those in need. The past week, one of our families, the Westfield’s had a major catastrophe, their house burned to the ground. They were away at the time but they lost everything except the clothes on their back. They need our help to get back on their feet. First of all they need a place to stay. If someone has a place to rent that will take a five member family with a dog, please contact the parish center. Secondly, they need clothes. […]

Pastor’s Corner – July 13, 2014

So often I ask someone how they are doing and the answer is: “I’m stressed out”. Here’s some thoughts on stress. Scientists tell us that one of the best ways to relieve stress is to get down on your knees and dig in the soil. I think being down on your knees with your hands in the dirt of the garden is a great way to pray and then stress automatically dissipates. Stress A lecturer, when explaining stress management, raised a glass of water and asked: “How heavy is this glass of water?” Answers ranged from 20g to 500g. The […]
